Easy Rice Crispy Cakes
When it comes to a kid-friendly and no bake recipe, then these Easy Rice Crispy Cakes are hard to beat. Not only do they have just a handful of ingredients, but they come together easily and are a real crowd pleaser!
They’re a great introduction to the kitchen and to baking for young kids, as well as being a classic and easy to love recipe for all. It was one of the first things I made with my now 10 year old daughter when she was younger so we love to revisit the recipe.
They’re chocolatey, sweet, crunchy and irresistible! It’s an easy and quick option to bring to a party, to contribute to a bake sale, for a quick snack, or as a project to make with the family.

What You Will Need
There’s just a few ingredients you need to make these rice crispy cakes. Feel free to use this as your grocery list if you need to go to the store!
3 tbsp (45g) of unsalted butter
3tbsp of golden syrup or honey
100g of milk chocolate (you can use white or dark chocolate if you would prefer)
3 cups (75g) of rice crispy cereal
Optional toppings: mini marshmallows, sprinkles, mini eggs, or chocolate chips
That’s all you need in terms of ingredients.
I’d also recommend having some kitchen equipment as well – a saucepan, something to measure the ingredients with (cups or a kitchen scale), a mixing bowl, a stirring spoon, and some cupcake cases.

Steps for Making these Easy Rice Crispy Cakes
This is a great recipe for kids to make, and there’s lots of ways they can get involved. They’re sure to have lots of fun sampling and making a mess of it, so watch out for too much of the mixture disappearing and maybe invest in some aprons!
Just be aware that of course the melted mixture will be hot, and an adult will need to be in charge of the stove.
Firstly, prepare your kitchen and measure out the butter, syrup, and chocolate. Then put them into a saucepan over a low heat. Keep stirring it until it reaches a smooth consistency, which your kids can help you with (with supervision).
Secondly, you’ll want to set this aside briefly while you measure out the rice crispy cereal you’re using. Put this into your mixing bowl, pour the melted chocolate mixture on top, and stir to combine. If you don’t have little hands helping you, you can just put the rice crispy cereal into the saucepan and mix it all together in there.
Thirdly, grab your cupcake cases. Ideally these would be placed into a cupcake baking tray, but if you don’t have one then it’s no issue and you can just place them on a plate. Simply spoon the mixture into the cupcake cases until they’re full.
Fourthly, if you are using any toppings, add these now. You can choose from anything and we have a few ideas for you too – mini marshmallows, sprinkles, mini eggs, or chocolate chips are some of my family’s favorites. It’s best to add these before the chocolate has set so that they can stick to the top.
Lastly, grab the tray or plate with your rice crispy cakes on them and put them into the fridge. You’ll want to chill these for at least an hour, or until they are fully set.
Then all that’s left to do is try them! They’re yummy, satisfying and chocolatey, so bring them along whenever you need a quick bake for friends, family, and schoolmates to enjoy!
Benefits of Baking for Kids
As I’ve mentioned, myself and my daughter often bake together. This is something we first began as just a fun family activity to try it out, but we now do it a lot. These rice crispy cakes were the first thing we ever made together, and they were the perfect choice. They’re so simple and easy, and they also help to teach kids such fundamental skills that will be so important for them later on in life.
For example, even just the measuring out of different ingredients is great for their development. It brings math out of the classroom and into real life, where they can apply it to something fun and yummy!
It also teaches them about the importance of accuracy in baking. Of course this recipe won’t fall apart if things are not measured correctly to the exact gram, but it’s good for them to learn for life and for recipes that are more complicated.
It also gives kids a fun way for them to learn about safety in the kitchen. They’ll be having fun but you can also teach them about safety while using the stove, that they can’t touch anywhere apart from the handles on saucepans, and just to generally be careful around stoves and hot food.
They also of course get a chance to stretch their creativity in a totally new way! The decorating of these cakes with whatever toppings you may choose can be great fun and getting to interact with what they have made is a fun sensory experience for them too.
