How to Play Two Truths and A Lie
This game is a simple one. This makes it great for people of all ages, different group sizes, and for groups where people know each other to varying degrees.
Each person must take a turn. They have to come up with three different statements to introduce themselves. Two of these statements must be true, and one of them a lie.
The rest of the group must guess or decide which statements are true, and which one is the lie.
If it’s your turn you must try to convince everyone that each of your statements could be true, so they’re not sure which one the lie is!
And if you’re guessing, you must do your best to work out which statement is most likely to be the lie.
There are a couple of ways you can change this slightly:
You can either say that no one is allowed to ask the person any questions, or you could allow the group members to ask one question. It’s up to you to decide how direct you’ll allow these questions to be.
You can give each round a different theme, like for example food, travel, entertainment, skills or sports. Everyone’s statements must be themed around these things, and this is an especially good idea for playing multiple rounds.
A fun way to make it more competitive is to allow the group to ask as many questions as they would like. However each question asked counts as one point, and at the end of the game the person who has the most points wins! Aka the person who had to be asked the most number of questions before their lie could be correctly identified is the winner.
Some Tips for Playing
Here are some handy tips and tricks if you need any help or advice:
If taking multiple turns, try and change up the order you say your lies and truths in.
Keep your two truths and one lie simple and believable.
Or you could try and make your truths surprising, or something that people wouldn’t expect from you!
Another idea, especially if you’re struggling to come up with a good lie, is to mix a truth with a lie. Tell a half-lie, which can then make it more believable too.
Ensure that you say all of your statements confidently. Body language can be key so you mustn’t speak too quickly or avoid eye contact so that people might guess you’re lying!
Don’t be afraid to make a guess yourself. You might as well get involved, even if you end up getting it wrong.
Most importantly, remember to have fun! The game is all about getting to know each other and just having a laugh with people.
